Newest CDPH Guidelines for Youth Sports

The California Department of Public Health has just come out with their newest guidelines for Youth and Adult Sports.  This document is extremely helpful and clarifies a lot of the ambiguity that has surrounded sports since our original Shelter-in-place in March.

San Mateo County (as of 12/16) will be heading to a Stay-At-Home order which will negate most of these new guidelines until it is lifted, but if/when Stay-At-Home order is lifted and we know which tier we are in, this will guide our options for programming.

Throughout the Fall, Hillsborough Recreation was able to provide quality middle school programming (on a smaller scale);  successfully running an Athletic Performance program, Viking Running Club, and Volleyball clinics, but we were waiting word on what else we could do, and this gives us quality information to start planning.

The following are options that we are exploring (these are allowable under the current Purple Tier once Stay-At-Home is lifted):

  • Outdoor Badminton
  • Corn Hole
  • Cross Country (continue Viking Running Club)
  • Disc Golf
  • Physical Training (continue Athletic Performance), but outdoors only
  • Outdoor Pickleball (singles only)
  • Tennis
  • Golf
  • Track and Field
  • Spikeball (singles only)

We are also looking at if we get to the Orange Tier offering an Outdoor Basketball program, Doubles Spikeball, Doubles outdoor pickleball.

Our traditional sports are laid out here with when we would be allowed to play them:

  • Flag Football--Orange Tier
  • Indoor Volleyball--Orange Tier
  • Indoor Badminton--Orange Tier
  • Indoor Basketball--Yellow Tier
  • Indoor Doubles Pickleball--Yellow Tier

As we navigate through these tiers and options we will send communication out to our school sites and our families in our registration system.  Please be on the lookout for more information in early January detailing our next steps.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.  We look forward to getting our Vikings out there on the courts and playing fields.
